For a chance at $250,000, would you torture your loved ones?

While watching the Super Bowl last night, I saw a commercial for the new TV show Extracted, and I am horrified!

Extracted

Extracted is a new TV series where people watch their loved ones experience terrifying conditions and situations and decide when to extract them. The ones who are safe decide the fate of the person being basically tortured.

According to Fox’s official description, “Extracted features 12 untrained competitors attempting to survive extremely grueling conditions, perilous terrain, and the threat of fearsome predators in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness. Meanwhile, some miles away, their family members are locked down at a secluded headquarters watching them navigate their dangerous surroundings alone via a 24/7 live feed. The fate of each untrained contestant in the wilderness lies in the hands of their family members back in HQ. Each amateur survivalist's family has the power to decide whether their loved one has what it takes to brave the elements and fight to be the last one standing, or whether the family will push the ominous 'Extract' button and remove their loved one and their whole family from the competition.”

What kind of twisted entertainment is this?

Books like 1984, A Brave New World, and The Hunger Games were all warnings, not how-to guides, yet people in power are making them reality!

While no one could hit an extraction button in The Hunger Games, it was torture for the viewers’ pleasure. At least the contestants were fighting for the survival of their communities. With Extracted, they are just trying to survive for money that isn’t even enough to buy a decent house in most places in the United States.

How many people had to vote on this being a good idea at the studio? How many people did they poll to test their interest in this? What was the minimum percentage they decided was good enough to produce a horrifying show like this?

Life is horrifying enough. Why do people want to watch their families be abused for a measly $250,000 that, I’m guessing, will be split between the competitors and their ‘families’?

It’s sick and twisted.

I knew the state of the world was getting bad, but I didn’t know it was this bad.

I was frighted before with all the technology and people losing their jobs to AI and other tech. I was scared by the rich just getting richer and the poor poorer and the middle class disappearing. Now I’m terrified by the masses.

I got physically ill when I saw this ad. I’m even more terrified as to where humanity is headed.

Are you terrified by Extracted or will you be tuning in?
